Tichborne Park were a little under strength due to football cup commitments and borrowed two of Andover U9s, Ben Knight and Robbie Hadfield, who apparently top scored for the opposition and took one of the two Andover wickets!

15th May: Colts News: The U11As, sponsored by Southgate Peugeot, had another good win on Monday evening at London Road against Trojans U11A in a pairs format game. Trojans won the toss and elected to bat but were soon in trouble scoring 43 for 12 with Jonathan Forsyth taking 4-0, James Knight 3-2, Robbie Hadfield 2-2 and one wicket each for Tom Cavanagh, Andrew Fenwick and Gilbert Lewis. The U16s were away to South Wilts again on Sunday afternoon in a 45 over game but were all out in the 42nd over for 207. Tim Clarke top scored with 54 and was well supported by Ollie Goss 32, Ed Jackson 28 and Naseem Alam 23. South Wilts passed Andover’s score again in the 42nd over but for the loss of only three wickets with Chris Hadfield taking 2-47 both to Tim Clarke stumpings and Tim Smith 1-25.

May 23rd: The U15s sponsored by Travail Employment Group were due to play Tichborne Park last Wednesday and St Cross last Friday but both matches were lost to the rain. Hopefully, they will have better luck with their next match away to Leckford this Friday

The David Fox Private Hire sponsored U13 teams were both due to play Trojans last Sunday but unfortunately Trojans B could not raise a team. However, the U13As managed to avoid the showers and play Trojans U13As last Sunday morning on a rather damp pitch at London Road. Winning the toss and batting first Andover reached 100-8 in their 20 overs, which in the conditions was a good score, with Tim Lewis 25*, Fred Kelly 18 and William Richards 15 the main contributors. Andover's opening bowlers were very economical, so much so that the team was able to use ten bowlers with Trojans falling 10 runs short - Jonty Hadfield 2-3, John Palmer 1-5, Fred Kelly 1-6 and Tim Lewis 1-11 the wicket takers.

A somewhat understrength Southgate Peugeot sponsored U11As had a disappointing first round match in the Oliver Cup against Chandlers Ford & Compton. Andover restricted the opposition to 56 runs but could only take 2 wickets with Daniel Cope 1-7 and Gary Lewis 1-9 the successful wicket takers. In reply the Andover opening pair of Matthew Knight 9* and Robbie Hadfield 5* made a good start putting on 19 runs but the remaining pairs lost 6 wickets so with the pairs format calculations Andover lost by 18 runs.

The U10s managed half a match against Norman Court School before the heavens opened last Wednesday. Norman Court put into bat were restricted to 70-6 in their 20 overs with Ben Knight 2-9, Hugh Watts 2-10 and Sam Lonsdale 1-20 taking the wickets.

The U9s sponsored by Stratfords Commercial had their Monday evening match against Norman Court School cancelled due to the weather but managed to play Farleigh School on Thursday evening. Farleigh batted first and scored 125 for the loss of only 4 wickets with Max Souter 1-6, Robbie Hadfield 1-9, Sam Matthews 1-12 and Chris Lee 1-16 taking the wickets. In reply Andover could only make 88 with Robbie Hadfield 9* and Alex Aldridge 8* the top scorers.

June 7th: After beating Leckford in the Millard Cup last week the U15s, sponsored by Travail Employment Group, met the same opposition last Friday in the League but with several of their regular players playing in the District Festival. Leckford batted first and made 73 for 8 in their 18 overs with Luke Andrews 3-6, Tom Spencer 2-20, Jonty Hadfield 1-4, Tom Cole 1-8 and Martin Roberts 1-16 taking the wickets. Andover won in the 15th over for the loss of only 1 wicket with opener Jonty Hadfield unbeaten on 34* and Mark Fiddes 25*.

In a tense and thrilling finish against Hursley Park last Sunday morning Andover’s young U13B side, supported by David Fox Private Hire, lost off the last ball in their Barfoot Cup Quarter Final match so very nearly joining the U13As in the Semi-Finals. Batting first in the 20 over match, Andover posted a challenging total of 108-5 with Ali Ansari 26*, William Ingram 21, James Pine 11* and Ben Stutchbury the principal run scorers. Hursley Park initially struggled in reply, at one stage collapsing to 70-6, but finally achieved their target with two wickets to spare after a chaotically scampered single off the final ball with James Knight 3-18, Tom Trinder 2-16, Jack Andrews 1-9 and Ali Ansari 1-23 the successful wicket takers.

The U13Bs also travelled to Southampton during half-term to play a 40 over match against a Winchester & District U12 representative side. The Andover team which included four U11s performed very creditably against strong opposition. The District side were held to 140-8 after being in some disarray at 7-3 with William Ingram 3-27, James Knight 2-7, Jack Andrews 1-8, James Pine 1-8 and Stuart Parsons 1-15 the wicket takers. After losing a wicket in the first over, Andover replied confidently with William Ingram 16 and Ali Ansari 17 laying the foundations but after a collapse only Ben Stuchbury 12 achieved double figures leaving the District side comfortable winners by 52 runs.

The Stratfords Commercial sponsored U9s had an excellent win, beating Fair Oak by 54 runs on Sunday morning at Charlton. In reply Andover were bowled out for 71 with Fred Kelly 19 and John Palmer 17* making excellent contributions.

The U13Bs were much too strong for Sparsholt U13Bs who only achieved 53-7 from their 20 overs thanks to a devastating spell of off-spin bowling from Tom Trinder who clean bowled 5 batsmen in his 4 over spell for only 6 runs including a hat-trick. James Knight was the other successful bowler with 1-11 and Jack Andrews achieved a run out with a direct hit for the second week running. In reply Andover only lost one wicket with Matthew Knight 12* and Joel Hulmes 9* seeing Andover safely home.

Naseem Alam thought his batting talents would not be required on the night but with a run out on a no-ball Naseem had to hastily pad up and face the last ball of the innings. This he duly despatched for 6 right into the back seat of a Bentley Convertible which was seen leaving the ground very shortly thereafter. In reply Easton & Martyr Worthy made 84 all out in 14.2 overs with Chris Hadield (3-8) taking a hat-trick and Wicket-Keeper Chris Jackson taking 3 stumpings. However Richard Bennett (5-16), Ben Knight (2-5), James Knight (1-4), Harry Blackburn and Toby Graham (1-14) had not read the script and bowled out the opposition for 77 runs in 18.1 overs to win by 4 runs.

This was followed by some very unselfish running, which saw Andover finish on 125-4 from 20 overs. The U13Bs didn’t fair so well against Bishops Waltham at London Road.  Batting first Andover started confidently enough with William Ingram 16 and Ali Ansari scoring at 5 an over, but when Ansari 6 was caught in the covers the next four batsmen were dismissed without scoring. At 31-6 Daniel Boyes 13 and Adam Davis 5 had their work cut out but managed to help move the final score to 59 all out with only two balls of their 20 overs remaining.
