Andover ladies and girls’ cricket set fair for 2016
Andover Cricket Club is celebrating this year’s success of its ladies and girls with plans for a fully fledged women’s team in 2016.
This summer the ladies at Andover CC seized the opportunity to take part in the Hampshire Cricket board initiative “W10”, an introduction to softball cricket for women who had never played hardball cricket, so complete beginners. This great initiative consisted of 10 training sessions led by Hampshire coach, Natasha, and 2 all-day cricket tournaments consisting of short format matches. The programme saw 16 Andover ladies give it a go with fun and laughs along the way. Andover won through to the finals section of the competition and, after some hard fought games against other “rookie” teams from Hampshire, was proud to finish third.
Andover Cricket Club are also congratulating their Under 15 girls of whom 4 have recently been selected for the Hampshire development squad – Anya Ahl, Brennan Bulpitt, Tally O’Farrell and Emily Cox. This follows the recent trials attended by 29 girls including fellow Andover player, Charlotte Harrison, who just missed out on making the 15-girl squad. So 2016 will see Anya, Brennan, and Tally continuing their development at county level and Emily who will be making her debut.
Also making a debut in 2016, will be the newly formed Andover Ladies’ team, in the Hampshire Cricket League for the first time, meaning that the club will now have a pathway for girls from Under 9, right through to adult cricket.
