Bournemouth II v Andover Cricket Club 1st XI (Sat) on Sat 05 Jun 2010 at 1:00pm
Andover Cricket Club Won by 45 runs

Match report
Andover continued their excellent start to the season with a comfortable 45 run victory over Bournemouth. On a hot and muggy day, Richard Taylor won the toss and unsurprisingly, elected to bat first. Yet again, Andover got off to a flying start with Will Prozesky striking the ball to all parts of the ground. With 50 runs on the board in just 7 overs, fellow opener Ali Hooper was first to be removed after smashing 2 consecutive fours. He was soon followed by Kiwi James O’Gorman but the ship was steadied with Mark Copleston ably supporting Prozesky. The South African born run machine was eventually dismissed for another quick-fire innings of 78, taking his tally for the season to 410 from just 6 innings.

The Andover middle and lower order came to life for the first time this season and did so in style. The Hadfield brothers, Jonty and Chris, nudged the ball around sensibly, picking up 3 or 4 runs and over with ease. Jonty fell first for a well constructed 23 but his brother went on to notch up his first half century of the season. He batted superbly for a well deserved and patient 53. He was well supported by Cillie van der Merwe (32), Martin Roberts (15) and Richard Taylor (11).

The last few overs saw experienced tail enders Mike Adams and Luke Graham at the crease and the fireworks really started. Adams cracked 17 runs in quick time, displaying an array of shots that an opening batsman would have been proud of. Graham supported Adams by rotating the strike and guided the side to 275-9 off their 50 overs.

The Bournemouth run chase started in dramatic fashion as Will Prozesky injured his shoulder bowling the first ball of the innings, with Luke Grahan having to finish the over. The home team’s innings set off at an electric pace thanks to some generous bowling from the Andover bowlers. The home side raced to 35 from the first 4 overs but then Andover started to put the brakes on with some tight bowling supported by excellent fielding.

The first wicket fell to Richard Taylor when he trapped Ridley LBW and this was soon followed by another LBW off the bowling of Jonty Hadfield. Quick spells from Mike Adams, James O’Gorman and Luke Graham all played a part in limiting the Bournemouth batsmen to just 3 or 4 an over but it was the spin combination of Jonty and Chris Hadfield that started to work wonders for the visiting team. The talented brothers were rewarded with 2 wickets apiece and effectively ended Bournemouth’s run chase as the required run rate increased past 10 an over.
Mike Adams was brought on to bowl his usual variety of slower balls and yorkers which bamboozled the opposition tail enders and he picked up 2 wickets for his efforts. The Bournemouth innings petered out and eventually ended on 230-8 off 50 overs. Another superb win for the town side who sit second in the league standings. Tomorrow they host third placed Hook and Newnham in a must win game.
