Andover Cricket Club 1st XI (Sat) v Burridge on Sat 03 Jul 2010 at 1:00pm
Andover Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets

Match report Andover maintained their title challenge on Saturday with their seventh win on the trot against a struggling Burridge side at London Road. Richard Taylor lost the toss, a rarity for him, and was asked to field first on a hot and sunny day and on the flattest track that Andover have produced this season. With that in mind, Andover were keen to make early inroads in the Burridge batting line up and reduce the away team to a low total, which is exactly what they did. In-form Richard Taylor made an early breakthrough, finding the edge of Wright while James O’Gorman removed the power-house Styles’ off-stump at the other end. Taylor then had the prolific Neil Cunningham caught at cover by debutant Jos Clarke who had a superb day in the field.

After their poor start, Burridge's South African import Byron Van der Merwe (44) and wicket keeper Jamie Rood (22) provided the only significant resistance as Taylor tinkered with the bowling changes and wickets fell with regularity. Taylor himself snaring the wicket of the dangerous Van der Merwe, trapping him plum LBW, and O’Gorman ripped out Rood, which sparked a collapse in the hapless Burridge batting line up. Three of the last five wickets for the away team were ducks and they managed four ducks in total as their batting capitulated under the pressure of the dominant Andover bowling attack. Mike Adams and Will Prozesky each claimed a wicket apiece, mopping up the tail as the Burridge innings closed on a meagre 145 all out. Taylor finishing with 4-25, ten wickets in two weeks for the town’s skipper, and O’Gorman capturing 4-14, his best figures so far this season.

Andover set about their run chase with typical brutality with Ali Hooper and Will Prozesky launching an assault on the Burridge new ball attack. Hooper set the tone as he blasted 10 runs off the first three balls of the innings and the pair raced along at 10 runs an over. When Hooper was dismissed in the 6th over for 28, Prozesky was joined by the aggressive O’Gorman who was in no mood to hang around. The New Zealander cracked an undefeated 29-ball 44, hitting 3 huge sixes and completed a good day for the overseas star. Not to be outdone, Prozesky smashed 57 not out in 44 balls at the other end as the pair decimated the visitors' attack to enable Andover to pass Burridge's total in under 15 overs.

Arguably Andover’s most convincing win of the season as the town side go from strength to strength. They look to stretch their unbeaten run to 8 games tomorrow when they travel to local rivals Hursley Park to play at the picturesque Quarters ground in Winchester.
