Hursley Park v Andover Cricket Club 1st XI (Sat) on Sat 10 Jul 2010 at 1:00pm
Andover Cricket Club Won by 84 runs

Match report Andover 1st XI romped to a 84 run victory over basement boys Hursley Park on Saturday, their eighth win in a row.

On a hot and sunny day at the Quarters ground, skipper Richard Taylor lost the toss and was surprisingly asked to bat first. Andover got off to a disastrous start losing Ali Hooper, Tim Clarke and Mark Copleston with only 30 runs on the board. However, James O'Gorman offered some resistance with a superb half century. The New Zealander was in fine form, destroying the poor Hursley bowling attack. When he was dismissed on 56 and Cillie van der Merwe for just 1 run, it was down to the Hadfield brothers, Jonty and Chris, to rescue the innings.

Yet again the prolific brothers were on song as they slowly constructed excellent half centuries. Jonty Hadfield was the first to notch up his fifty, his fourth of the season and when he was removed on 72, Chris continued the good work. Well supported by Richard Taylor, Hadfield compiled his third fifty in a row, ending on 61 not out, to take the away team total to a competitive 229-7 off their 50 overs.

Hursley Park started their run chase in a steady fashion, slowly progressing at 3 an over for the first 25 overs. They lost their Cambridge UCCE opening bastmen to James O'Gorman, caught behind by Cillie van der Merwe. He was soon followed by Cox who had his off stump launched out of the ground by Luke Graham. Opener Prendergast (41), who has scored over 400 runs this season for the struggling Hursley Park, was the danger man and all the time he was at the crease, the home side stood a chance of victory. However, in a moment of madness against the leg-spin of Chris Hadfield, he charged down the pitch, missed it and was duly stumped by van der Merwe.

Chris Hadfield then went on to remove three more Hursley batsmen to complete a superb day for him. He was well supported by Jonty Hadfield who claimed two victims for himself with his wily off-spin. Captain Taylor then brought himself back on to mop up the tail, removing the last two batsmen with ease. The Hursley innings ended on 145 all out, having been in a good position at 90-2 after 30 overs.

Another good victory for the town side as they continue to mount a serious title challenge. Tomorrow they host the only team that have defeated them this season, Hartley Wintney, as they look to seek revenge and notch up their ninth win in a row.
