New Milton v Andover Cricket Club 1st XI (Sat) on Sat 28 Aug 2010 at 1:00pm
Andover Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets

Match report Andover finished their championship winning season in disappointing fashion when they lost to New Milton by 7 wickets. The town side struggled to pick themselves up for the game after winning the league title the week before.

Richard Taylor won the toss and elected to bat first on a wet, bowler friendly wicket and the town side soon found themselves in trouble when they lost prolific run scorer Ali Hooper in the first over. However, Will Prozesky (58) and James O’Gorman (29) battled hard to provide the platform for a big score but when they were dismissed, the rest of the Andover batsmen struggled with the conditions. Only Jonty Hadfield (36) stood firm whilst all around him crumbled as Andover lost a quick succession of wickets and the talented all rounder was unlucky to be given out caught behind to leave the town side finishing on a competitive 187 all out.

Andover started their fielding innings well, removing both opening batsmen without a run on the board thanks to Mike Adams and Richard Taylor. However, this only paved the way for the league’s leading run scorer David Wheeler who promptly blasted a century and took the game away from Andover. It was only the introduction of spin ace Ali Hooper who could make an impact, taking a wicket in his first over, but it was too little too late as the home side cruised to victory.

The town side can be proud of their achievements this season although this game will be one they want to forget. Tomorrow Andover host a President’s day 6-a-side tournament and welcome all comers to turn up and watch a fun-filled day of cricket.
