Waterlooville v Andover Cricket Club 2nd XI (Sat) on Sat 08 May 2010 at 1:00pm
Andover Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets

Match report The twos won the first league game of the 2010 campaign in County 1 with a strong all round performance at Waterlooville, but the win was inspired by a maiden league 50 from wicket-keeper batsman Matt Knight.

On a cold blustery day on the south coast, skipper Andy Sale, had no hesitation in asking Waterlooville to bat first. The home side started briskly, but when Dean Woodhouse cleaned bowled their dangerous Australian all-rounder, the town side were able to stem the flow thanks to solid opening spells from Woodhouse and James Kinght.

Gedeon Charles (1 for 33 from 10)and Dave Webb (1 for 26 from 10) really turned the screw with excellent spells of seam and spin respectively. At 97 for 4 after 30 overs, Waterlooville tried to attack, but the experience of Jon Walsh and Andy McMahon proved to be decisive. Walsh took a wicket with his first ball with an absolute gem of a delivery trapping his victim plum LBW, and he went on to pick up another 2 scalps finishing with figures of 3 for 33, and McMahon chipped in with 2 for 25.

It was left for Woodhouse to take the final wicket finishing with 2 for 32 from his 10 overs and leaving the town side with a target of 200 to win.

Matt Knight and Jack Andrews put on 57 for the first wicket - both batsmen punishing the short ball to great effect, and Knight in particular driving imperiously through the covers when anything was slightly over pitched.

Knight went on to hit 56, paving the way for nominated "finishers" Dean Woodhouse (21) and Andy McMahon (31) to sew up the victory by 4 wickets batting at 7 and 8 after the middle order had faltered.
