Andover Cricket Club 2nd XI (Sat) v Purbrook on Sat 15 May 2010 at 1:00pm
Andover Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets

Match report The second team won a thrilling match against Purbrook at London Road to maintain their ubeaten start to the season. Skipper, Andy Sale, decided to bowl first on an excellent looking pitch, and openers Dean Woodhouse and James Knight put in good first spells restricting the visitors to 30 from the first 10 overs.

The good work was continued by spinners, Dave Webb and Luke Andrews, and Andrews was rewarded with the first wicket in the 16th over thanks to a sharp catch at mid wicket from Andy Sale with the score on just 44.

This brought Purbrook's overseas player to the crease, and prompted the start of a shambolic period of poor fielding. In the face of the South African's onslaught, the town side put down 5 catches and Purbrook scored at will.

Klaasen was eventually dismissed for 87, but the damage had been done and Purbrook cruised to 249 for 9 from 50 overs.

Woodhouse was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 for 34 from his 10 overs, James Knight picked up 3 wickets at the end and Jon Walsh bowled very well in the middle of the innings picking up 2 for 49 from his 10 overs.

Andover's young openers, Matt Knight and Shaun Attwood, replied in imperious fashion, plundering 75 from the first 15 overs before Knight was trapped LBW for 29. Club Chairman, Paul Funnell carried on the good work and he and Attwood put on a classy 89 partnership in just 16 overs before Funnell eventually fell 3 short of his 50.

When Attwood holed out for 74, the bulk of the work looked to be done, but the middle order faltered, and the town side started to slip behind the required rate thanks to some very tight Purbrook bowling.

With the game slipping away, and 7 wickets down, it was left to the heros of last week, Dean Woodhouse and Andy McMahon, to score 30 from the last 4 overs. It was a nail biting finish, but the experienced pair ensured that they scraped home with 1 ball to spare.

Next up is a tough home tie against Ryde when Andover will need to be at their best to continue their winning run.
