Andover Cricket Club 2nd XI (Sat) v Fawley on Sat 05 Jun 2010 at 1:00pm
Andover Cricket Club Lost by 40 runs

Match report Andover IIs lost a hard fought game at London Rd against a strong Fawley side. The town side were missing several key experienced players, and fielded first in the hope of restricting the visitors to a reachable target.

Things started well enough with young openers James Knight (3 for 66 from 10) and James Duckworth (2 for 67 from 9) taking a wicket apiece in the first 5 overs, but Fawley skipper Andy Parratt and the experienced Paul Marks soon turned things around with a fine partnership of 118. Parratt went on to notch up an excellent 108 out of a formidable total of 302 for 9.

The pick of the Andover bowlers were Jon Walsh (3 for 56 bfrom 10) and the promising all-rounder, Josh Ballentine-Dykes (1 for 40 from 10).

The town side had a mountain to climb after tea, and needed a good start. Openers, Matt Knight (24) and Robbie Hadfield (33) were solid but struggled to find the gaps and with only 41 on the board from 14 overs when Knight was out, the required rate was up to 8 an over.

Steve Ott, batting at 3, quickly started to turn things around, dispatching the ball to all parts in his belligerent knock of 81. He was supported well by Ballentine-Dykes (27), and when both were out in quick succession with the score on 211 for 5 with 10 overs to go, an unlikely victory was in sight.

Shaun Attwood (22) and Luke Andrews (27) kept the home side hoping, and a quick-fire 21 from the skipper, Andy Sale, looked to have set up a grandstand finish, but Fawley kept taking wickets at crucial moments and Andover were finally dismissed in the 48th over for a creditable 262.

With the return of Dean Woodhouse from injury expected to bolster the bowling attack, the seconds will be looking to return to winning ways at Ellingham tomorrow.
