Ellingham v Andover Cricket Club 2nd XI (Sat) on Sat 12 Jun 2010 at 1:00pm
Andover Cricket Club Lost by 27 runs

Match report The Seconds lost a game at Ellingham they really should have won. Skipper, Andy Sale, again chose to field first on a green top in the New Forest. His decision looked to have paid dividends as the Ellingham openers struggled to get the ball away in the face of some excellent bowling from James Knight and Jon Walsh.

Walsh was rewarded with the first wicket which was quickly followed by a wicket for spinner, Dave Webb who continued the good work bowling in tandem with Dean Woodhouse. The home side were really struggling at 44 for 2 from 20 overs, but when Woodhouse pulled up injured, the town side's bowling fell apart.

Burrett and Barker proceeded to put on an unbroken partnership of 255 each passing the hundred mark on the way to an impressive total of 294 for 2.

In spite of the capitulation in the field, Andover responded brightly with the bat. After losing Matt Knight cheaply, Dean Woodhouse and Robbie Hadfield kept the score moving briskly, and when Woodhouse went for one shot too many and was clean bowled for 23, the town side were well poised at 69 for 2 from just 12 overs.

Andy Sale continued the good work, dispatching the bad ball effectively, but Hadfield fell to a loose shot for 38, and Luke Andrews quickly followed him back to the pavillion for just 9.

This brought his younger brother Jack Andrews to the crease, who mercilessly put away any loose delivery, including 6 huge sixes. Sale and Andrews put on 93 together, and whilst they were at the crease, the win was definitely on. But Sale fell for a stylish 64, and Andrews followed soon after for 58, and the lower order faded away.

Jon Walsh and Phil Knight made sure of maximum batting points, but ran out of overs on 267 for 9, losing by just 27 runs.

The seconds have a massive game at home to high flying rivals, South Wilts II, where a big crowd is expected to be backing a return to winning ways at London Road tomorrow.
