Andover Cricket Club 2nd XI (Sat) v South Wilts II on Sat 19 Jun 2010 at 1:00pm
Andover Cricket Club Lost by 6 wickets

Match report Andover IIs were comfortably beaten by 6 wickets by a strong South Wilts II side at London Road. Notching up their 6th successive victory to comfortably top the table, the visitors showed no mercy in chasing down 203 with 13 overs to spare.

Batting first on a good looking track, the town side started slowly. Shaun Attwood went early for 0, and fellow opener, Robbie Hadfield, struggling with a back injury, looked a shadow of his usual self as he limped to 19 before dragging one on to his stumps.

Andy Sale and Steve Ott started to drag themselves back into the game with Ott attacking whenever possible, and Sale skilfully pushing the ball into the gaps. The pair put on 50 before Ott holed out at cover for 22. Sale went on to notch up his second fifty in succession, and looked set to push on for his century before running himself out on 67.

This brought the hard hitting pair of Gedeon Charles and Dave Webb to the crease, and they accelerated the scoring in search of a competitive score. Both scored 34, but a total of just 203 always looked light. South Wilts bowled very well throughout with Ducellier the pick conceding just 14 runs from his 10 overs and taking 2 wickets on the way.

The visitors attacked from the start, and in spite of losing a wicket early to Gedeon Charles, the Pitman brothers, Sam and Rob scored freely. Both were removed by Dave Webb's spin for 41 and 33 respectively, to give Andover a sniff of a chance. Webb was easily the best of the bowlers taking 2 for 33 from his 8 overs.

But Tom Pearce and Harry Hawkins showed maturity beyond their years to put together a match winning partnership of 122, punishing anything loose with relish.

Jon Walsh took a consolation caught and bowled to remove Hawkins, but the result never looked in doubt. The twos must now regroup before tomorrow's game at Otterbourne, and will be looking for a much stronger all round performance if they are to return to winning ways.
