Otterbourne v Andover Cricket Club 2nd XI (Sat) on Sat 26 Jun 2010 at 1:00pm
Andover Cricket Club Won by 215 runs

Match report It was a record breaking day for Andover IIs at Otterbourne on Saturday as the second team hit an unbelievable 415 for 6 as they romped to an emphatic victory by 215 runs.

It was the highest score recorded in Hampshire League County 1 history breaking the previous best of 412 from BAT which they had held for 15 years, and it also broke the ACC record held by the first team for just 5 weeks after they scored 412 against Rowledge.

It was a bad toss for Otterbourne to lose on such a hot day and skipper, Andy Sale, had no hesitation in batting first. The town side got off to a bad start losing the hapless Robbie Hadfield for a duck. On another day he would have filled his boots, but it was left to the experienced pair of Steve Ott and Paul Funnell to build the platform for what was to come.

They negotiated a difficult first 15 overs taking the score on to 52 without taking any risks before taking control on their way to a magnificent partnership of 180. Funnell continued a fine run of form with an extravagent range of shots in his innings of 79, but Ott dominated as he mercilessly punished the Otterbourne second string bowlers smashing his way to 150 from 124 balls including 8 sixes and one over that went for 30.

Not to be out done, Tim Clarke added to Otterbourne's misery bludgeoning his way to an amazing 97 from just 43 balls, as the town side plundered 256 runs from the last 20 overs.

Andy Sale chipped in with 29 not out at the end, taking his side over the magic 400 mark and on into the record books.

The victory was never in doubt after tea, but the Andover bowlers showed what could be achieved on a track that always had a bit in it for the bowlers. Gedeon Charles struck first with the score on 30, and James Knight (0 for 29 from 10 overs) bowled a spell of impeccable line and length without taking a wicket, and building the pressure on Otterbourne as the required rate quickly disappeared into double figures.

But it was the tantalising flight and guile of spin king, Dave Webb, which broke the back of any resistance from the home side, taking 4 for 46 from his 10 overs helped by three stunning catches in the deep by Tim clarke.

Andy McMahon (3 for 41) and Jon Walsh (2 for 37) mopped up the tail with relish and in spite of some stubborn resistance, Otterbourne were dismissed for 200 in the 47th over.

With the first team beckoning for several of the second team stars tomorrow, the game at Burridge will be a good game to win as the IIs try to build a promotion push off the back of this big win.
