Burridge II v Andover Cricket Club 2nd XI (Sat) on Sat 03 Jul 2010 at 1:00pm
Andover Cricket Club Lost by 11 runs

Match report Andover IIs lost a hard fought game at Burridge IIs by 11 runs. It was a game they really should have won having bowled themselves into a good position at the break.

Jon Walsh bowled an immaculate spell of 10 overs dismissing both openers and conceding just 21 runs, whilst at the other end, first Gedeon Charles bowling with typical West Indian ferocity and then Pete Roberts who took 2 wickets in his first spell reduced the home side to 54 for 4 after 20 overs.

But a vital dropped catch with the score on 90 for 5 resulted in a quick fire partnership of 77 for the 6th wicket and suddenly Burridge were back in the game and threatening a big score.

It took the return of Gedeon Charles (2 for 33) to halt the progress and bowling in tandem with Dave Webb (3 for 60), Burridge slumped from 160 for 5 to 198 for 9. Pete Roberts finished off the innings by clean bowling Chris Mephan for 91 leaving the town side a very reachable target of 210 to aim at after tea.

Matt Knight (36) and Shaun Attwood (12) put on 51 for the first wicket, and in spite of losing Paul Funnell for 0 to the first of three debatable LBW decisions, when skipper Andy Sale came to the wicket at 96 for 3 in the 24th over, Andover looked well set to reach their target.

But when Jack Andrews (35) went for one big shot too many and was well caught on the boundary with the score on 109, two further wickets fell without adding to the score and suddenly the batting side were under the cosh at 109 for 6.

Sale scored patiently, but wickets fell regularly at the other end and at 164 for 9 the run chase looked doomed, but batting sensibly with Jon Walsh the pair moved steadily towards an unlikely win. Burridge brought back their openers who bowled a couple of very tight overs and with the prospect of having to score 12 runs from the last over, Walsh succumbed to the pressure and was bowled for a creditable 12 runs, leaving Sale high and dry on 39 not out.

Bedhampton at home is next up which is another very winnable game against lowly opposition.
