Locks Heath v Andover Cricket Club 2nd XI (Sat) on Sat 07 Aug 2010 at 1:00pm
Andover Cricket Club Lost by 62 runs

Match report Andover IIs lost again in a rain affected match at Locks Heath. Locks Heath batted first and got a way to a flyer with a first wicket partnership of 80 from 16 overs. For once, Jon Walsh lacked his usual accuracy and Gedeon Charles and James Knight also failed to find a wicket taking delivery.

It was the reliable spin of Dave Webb that pulled the game back towards Andover with a solid spell of 2 for 30 from his 10 overs, and part time spinner, Martin Roberts chipped in with a wicket as well. But Locks Heath's batting looked strong and in spite of a couple of rain breaks they crafted a very competitive score of 274 for 6 from their 50 overs.

That left the town side with a target of 214 from a reduced 32 overs. A good start was required, and openers Stuart Summers and Gedeon Charles delivered spectacularly, plundering 53 runs from the first 4 overs.

Locks Heath quickly brought their spinner into the attack and wickets started to fall with regularity. Summers went for a risky single and was runn out for 36, and Charles went for 14 trying to hoist the spinner over mid wicket.

Martin Roberts batted well for his 20, and for a while, Jos Clarke looked like he was going to make a big score but he too holed out going for one big shot too many.

The pressure of the required rate told on the lower order and the town side slumped to 152 all out with 6 overs of their 32 remaining unused.

A harsh lesson in balancing a run chase with keeping wickets in hand was learnt by the inexperienced side.

Mudeford at home on Saturday is now a must win game, and with a number of experienced players missing, the youngsters will have to step up their game to deliver a ruthless winning performance.
