St Cross Symondians III v Andover Cricket Club 3rd XI (Sat) on Sat 10 Jul 2010 at 2:00pm
Andover Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets

Match report On Saturday Andover 3rds took the relatively short trip to St Cross where they looked to upset their promotion ambitions. On a green wicket Andover were asked to bat first, Matt Knight and James Halle-Smith got the team off to a good start putting on 50 for the first wicket before Halle- Smith was dismissed for 10. Knight continued to attack the bowling on his own as Holman, Roberts and Barnard all fell for single figures. Andover now struggling 4 wickets down looked to knight to carry them to a competitive score however he was unable to do so falling on 43. Captain Van der Westhuizen started the recovery hitting the ball to all parts before being stumped on 29. With Andover looking like being bowled out for less than 150 up stepped young Jack Kent (22 not out) who showed patience at the start of his innings and aggression as the overs ran out, helping to post a reasonable 186 for 9.

Realising that they were probably 30 or 40 runs short the opening bowlers got Andover off to a great start as St Cross were 14 for 2 after 6 overs, Roberts (1 – 37) and D Turner (3 – 31) picking up a wicket apiece. Andover continued to bowl and field well but gave away silly extras at crucial times. Cope (0-37) and Westhuizen (1-32) bowled with good control and were unlucky not to pick up more wickets. Cope bowled particularly well without reward varying his pace and flight to cause all sorts of problems. Unable to get the former 1st team left handed player, Burridge (83*), out Andover failed in their attempt to win as St Cross won by 5 wickets. Andover will look at this defeat and realise that too many dropped catches and not enough runs scored by the top order cost them this one.
