Andover Cricket Club 3rd XI (Sat) v Basingstoke & North Hants III on Sat 21 Aug 2010 at 1:30pm
Andover Cricket Club Won by 4 runs

Match report Last Saturday The Town 3rd XI entertained Basingstoke in a relegation battle, the loser facing the drop while the victor looking at a still uphill battle to save their place in Hampshire league county 3.

Andover batted first on a damp wicket. Young opener Halle-Smith being undone by the wicket early doors and was bowled for just 4 which instantly put ACC on the back foot. This meant Skipper Pete Van der Westhuizen was joined at the crease By Jody Everett who started stongly and the pair started to rebuild the innings.
Van der Westhuizen look bright and scored quicky until he missed a straight one looking for a big shot through mid wicket, bowled for 15. The Batting line up was young and Everett who looked in very good form was helped out with nice knocks from Sam 'edges through the slips' Holloway 21 and the hard working Alex Aldridge 16. Wickets did fall at regular intervals however so Everett worked the ball around the ground and finished the innings unbeaten on 116 out of a total of 217 with scoring shots all around the ground which meant that Town had a reasonable total to defend in the inclement conditions.

After the tea interval Basingstoke started their reply in good fashion McKenna 27 and Fulton 33. ACC bowled tight lines but the Basing batsmen found the gaps and were able to score boundries. The First xi had by this time won the league title on london rd one and became the 12th man charging the players and then wickets fell. Spinner Dan Cope bowling extremely well finishing with 4 wickets and the push for the win was on under darkening skys and an elusive win in sight.

Halle-Smith kept well to take 3 dismissals behind the stumps on his last game of the season and Daniel Leavesley taking the all important wicket of opener Fulton for 33. Special mention should go also to yound spinner Adog Aldridge who bowled extremely well to tie up one end and help the ACC cause.

One for the future Dan Turner took 3 crucial wickets at the end of the innings and could have had more if Everett hadnt dropped a chance at short cover nearing the end. Both players were happy soon after when Everett capped a good day at the office taking the catch that won the game off Turners accurate medium pace bowling. With the pressure lifted the town side celebrated with great style and aplom winning a closely fought game by just 4 runs, Basingstoke stranded all out for 213. The side then joined the Silver league Champions (ACC 1st XI)in the bar to carry on the celebrations.

The battle for survival reaches its climax tomorrow with a vist to Mid tabled East Woodhay. Lets finish the league season in style and push hard to stay up
