Andover Cricket Club 4th XI (Sat) v Hursley Park IV on Sat 10 Jul 2010 at 2:00pm
Andover Cricket Club Won by 88 runs

Match report Andover's IV team (181-8) put together their most convincing win of the season so far on Saturday against Hursley Park IVs (93 all out).

Andover skipper Matt Goodman won the toss and decided to bat first on a muggy afternoon on London Road 2. Richard Bennett (21) and Alex Webber (9) got Andover off to a solid start before some confusion and a sharp throw ran Webber out. Andover's middle over wobbled dangerously against some tight bowling from Trevor Foreman (10.0-5-27-2), but Matt Brown (50) proved to be the anchor, playing with controlled aggression as he earned his first fifty for the club. The situation wasn't looking good for the town side at 107-7 in the 28th over, when the tail decided to wag against the leg spin of Hursley's Ali Mortaza (10.0-1-42-2). Sam Holloway (22), Goodman (33 not out) and David Richards (27 not out) showed real grit in bringing Andover through to the 42nd over with a respectable total.

Hursley Park's opening pair of Foreman (8) and Mortaza (5) looked dangerous, but a fantastic run-out from Webber and a sharp catch from Fran Andrews saw them off. James Frecknall (9.0-1-21-2), D. Richards (6.0-2-20-2) and Rich Woodley (3.0-0-11-2) all bowled extremely well as Andover tore through Hursley's line-up. B. Moss batted very well for Hursely on a bad ankle, doggedly defending his wicket before being caught behind on 24 to finish the match. Fran once again proved that you don't need to bowl long spells to get wickets, taking two wickets for two runs off only 7 balls.

In the end, the IV's played with real heart and dedication in the field on Saturday, and deserve credit for an outstanding team performance as we enter the final weeks of the season.
