Match report Andover IVs suffered another disappointing loss against nearby Penton. The youthful side under the leadership of the not so youthful Fran Andrews were put straight into bat after losing the toss on a damp wicket.
The opening pair of Richard Channon and Steve Lent managed to strike up a partnership of 10 before both their wickets fell. After the two wickets a youthful batting order took over with Kieran Godwin scoring 32 and Robbie Skeates scoring 21 they both put on a much needed partnership of 50 before falling victim to Pentons bowlers. From there small but significant contributions made by the lower order with Hamish Morton smashing a quick 19 and Eleanor Ingram hitting 15 meant that Andover finished up on 149-8.
With lots of work to do in the field the opening bowlers found it hard to break through with that first wicket even if the bowling was economical with Max Souter 0-23 off 7.4 overs and Ben Knight 0-35 of 10. However Max Romer-Lee 1-25 bowled a tactical full toss and broke through Penton’s opening partnership of 74. The only other wicket taker was Fran Andrews 1-18 as Penton through J Hunter 42 not out and T Cavanagh 37 not out ran out comfortable winners by 8 wickets.
