Great Durnford v Andover Cricket Club 4th XI (Sat) on Sat 07 Aug 2010 at 1:30pm
Andover Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets

Match report Andover's fourth team continued their run of bad form with a loss to Great Durnford, who notched up their first win of the season. On a remarkably dry pitch in the midst of a windy and rainy day, Andover skipper Matt Goodman chose the wrong week to lose the toss and Durnford lost no time in putting the visitors in.

Andover started well, with Kieran Godwin (20) and Steve Lent (29) building a platform with some watchful batting against the Durnford openers. In at 5, Matt Brown also continued a run of good form, racking up 24 runs in his bid for the fourth XI batting prize. Unfortunately, what was a good position at 93-4 deteriorated quickly to 138 all out, as Durnford's secret weapon - B. Spence - cut the heart out of Andover's attack. Spence (6-0-23-4) and opener Piers Foster (5.5-3-6-2) were the cream of Durnford's bowling.

LBdr. Spence was man of the match for Durnford with the bat as well, demonstrating the Royal Artillery CC's big hitting style against some poor bowling from Andover, hitting 67 runs including eleven 4s and two 6s. G. Powell also brought the big bat on Durnford's idiosyncratic pitch with an effective 40. Andover's only bright spots were Fran Andrews taking the wickets of Powell and Spence for only 13 runs, a very classy run-out from Harry Vize and the debut of newly-promoted Robin Richards, who bowled a sharp spell of five overs, taking two wickets for 19 runs.

In the end, it was a comfortable first victory for Durnford as Andover's batting let them down again. With only three weeks remaining in the season, Andover will need another victory to stay out of the relegation zone in Regional Northwest Division 2.
