Damerham v Andover Cricket Club 4th XI (Sat) on Sat 21 Aug 2010 at 1:30pm
Andover Cricket Club Lost by 26 runs

Match report Andover IV's battled through wet and muddy conditions only to suffer a rain-soaked loss away at Damerham on Saturday.

Damerham's skipper won the vital toss and chose to bat, taking advantage of new ball and the hard deck under the soft top. A strong opening spell from Robin Richards (8.0-0-28-3) had Damerham under pressure early, as he removed the number 2 & 3 batsmen cheaply. M. Harvey (40) and H. Gilbert (57) fought back for Damerham, scoring freely as the Andover bowlers struggled to find their footing. Phil Knight (6.0-0-36-1) eventually broke the partnership with a sharp catch off his own bowling to remove Harvey. It was then that Andover brought out the big guns, and Fran Andrews tore through Damerham's lower order, taking six wickets, including that of Gilbert, to keep the total within reach.

Andover's batting started with some flair, as Richard Knight (12) played shots from the outset. Callum Sherlock (33) batted very well in the other opening role, hitting some superb shots as he formed a very good partnership with Will Turner (13) for the second wicket stand. When Turner was caught out, Josh Ballantyne-Dykes (33) and Sherlock continued to take the attack to Damerham, keeping the visitors well above the required rate. Deceptive slower bowling from A. Turnbull (10.0-1-22-2), D. Borroughs (6.0-0-14-2), and D. Colbourne (5.0-1-7-2) did for both batsmen in the end, however, and accounted for the bulk of Andover's lower order. Matt Brown (36) was the only stalwart for Andover, batting with control in the rain and occasionally lashing out to punish the wayward ball. Robin Richards (2 not out), in at 11, held up the inevitable long enough to give Andover a glimmer of hope before Brown was caught behind attempting a cut on a ball that bounced just too much.

The town's fourth team has their work cut out for them next week to prevent the drop against Hungerford's second team at home on London Road 2.
