SEC 20/20 round 1: Lymington v Andover Cricket Club 1st XI (Sun) on Sun 13 Jun 2010 at 4:00pm
Andover Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets

Match report Last season's nailbiting defeat to Ventnor in the semi final of the Southern Electric 20/20 Cup to miss out on the floodlit centerpiece at the Rose Bowl made Andover determined to make a winning start to this campaign. However, 2009 Champions Lymington were the opponents in what proved to be a dramatic and tense game of cricket. Confident Lymington won the toss and without hesitation proceeded to bat aggressively and try to recapture their glory from the previous year. R Taylor (1-21) struck early but Andover were unable to capitilise on this success as they dropped two crucial catches, both when the batsman M Rushbrook was in single figures. After this let off he singlehandendly bludgeoned the bowling attack allowing no bowler to settle. When joined by N McMurray (54), Andover were under the cosh and desperate for wickets as both played fluently, increasing the scoring rate significantly. Andover struggled to maintain a grip on the game until the fall of Rushbrook for 84 when he was superbly caught in the deep by A McMahon. At 147-3 with 5 overs to go a huge score was likely until the tight death bowling of captain J Hadfield (1-36) and M Adams (1-30). Both managed to secure a wicket as Lymington's innings curtailed at 185-5, a total which seemed above par and was especially disappointing considering the importance of the dropped catches.

Andover were determined to start positively and so proved the case with a flurry of early boundaries from W Prozesky until he was dismissed in dubious circumstances. When lynchpin Al Hooper fell early and M Copleston was clean bowled, Andover were in the mire at 19-3. C Van Der Merwe joined the J O'Gorman and they proceeded to battle hard to consolidate the innings. The awesome O'Gorman continued where he left off the previous day with a match winning hundred to plunder the ball to the boundary while taking intelligent singles to ensure Andover were close to the required run rate. His 113 run partnership with Van Der Merwe (31) took Andover to a position where they could potentially cause an upset. After the fall of a few quick wickets O'Gorman was joined by L Andrews (23*), who proved to be the catalyst for victory as he launched the ball to the boundary. With O'Gorman he took Andover close with 16 required for victory off the final two overs before smashing the first four balls of headliner Rushbrook's final over to the boundary for a magnificant opening round victory. Despite Andrews' heroics the plaudits must go to O'Gorman who finished with a breathtaking 90*. He commented after the victory that even after the fall of the quick wickets that with 'sensible application and purpose the total was always within our grasp.'

As a result Andover secured their place in the second round with their next fixture away to Paultons in a fortnight.
