SEC 20/20 round 2: Paultons v Andover Cricket Club 1st XI (Sun) on Sun 27 Jun 2010 at 4:00pm
Andover Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets

Match report After knocking out reigning champions Lymington in the previous round and after a crushing win over New Milton the previous day, Andover travelled to Paultons in high spirits confident of progressing in the Southern Electric 20/20 Cup. Captain Jonty Hadfield lost the toss in the blazing sunshine and were asked to field. Openers Mike Adams (1-19) and Richard Taylor (1-36) started brightly taking an early wicket apiece despite Andover starting the game with only 10 players due to Cillie Van Der Merwe's wayward time-keeping. After this promising start R O'Brien (38) started punishing the length bowling with a destructive onslaught which meant Paultons were crusing at nearly 10 runs an over during the 6 powerplay overs. However, the early introduction of spin ace Chris Hadfield (1-15) proved worthwhile as he severely restricted and contained the Paultons lineup. The wicket of O'Brien, caught in the deep by Mike Adams, was his only success but was important as he was looking particularly dangerous. From this point Andover were able to apply the brakes to the innings through the inspiring bowling of James O'Gorman (3-17) and Luke Graham (1-6). O'Gorman especially bowled terrifically with a penetrating line splendid length. A late flurry of runs saw Paultons reach 133 for 7 off their allotted 20 overs, a score which looked well below par initially.

Lavish strokemakers Ali Hooper (22) and Will Prozesky looked to impose their aggressive strokeplay upon the bowling attack from the outset punishing the bad ball with potent authoriy. However, Prozesky, Copleston and O'Gorman fell quickly leaving the majestic Hooper with some work to do with the middle order. Powerhouse Hooper smashed a couple of fiery blows which tilted the game in Andover's favour before he fell to a stunning catch going for another maximum. However, it was evenly poised at 63-4 at the midway point and with Van der Merwe (20) playing himself in with an abundance of dot balls, despite plenty of aggressive intent, Andover found themselves in some trouble. With the innings in need of stimulation the eminent Chris Hadfield (16*) stepped up and stabilised Andover's effort. After the fall of some cheap wickets, most notably Mike Adams with a shot that 'should have been kept in the locker', Andover needed 34 to win off the final 4 overs. Hadfield elegantly caressed singles while Richard Taylor (20*) pulverised the Paultons bowling in a match winning partnership to seal the victory for Andover by 3 wickets.

Despite a disappointing batting performance from Andover they have progressed into the quarter finals of the 20/20 cup and await their next fixture in a fortnight's time.
