Andover Cricket Club Won by 28 runs

Match report FINGERS ON HAND TO SEAL ANDOVER WIN

After winning the toss and batting, stand in captain Luke Andrews had no hesitation in batting first on what looked like a hard and flat wicket. Openers Matt Knight and Robbie Hadfield started patiently against a dangerous bowling attack. Knight was first to fall for a paltry 16 to a sublime diving catch in the gully. Luke Andrews and Hadfield rebuilt and then went from strength to strength accumulating runs with ease asn elegance. Andrews' uncanny ability to find the gaps and Hadfield's impressive hook shots brought about a scintiating partnership until the fall of Andres for 70. Hadfield was unfazed as he wento n to dominate the bowling attack further and recorded his first century of the season in the 34th over. A fine innings that shows the growing maturity of one of Andover's bright young prospects. When he fell for 115 it was left to Alex Aldridge and Mike Adams to feast on the remainder of the bowling as a few lusty blows meant Andover finished with 258-5.

Purley started poorly as James Knight's ferocious bouncers meant that the batsman stepped on his own stumps. His aggressive length caused all sorts of problems and if his fitness levels were at their peak he could have singlehandedly dominated the Purley lineup. Dan Turner also bowled consistentyl at the other end taking two scalps with his slow medium pacers. However, the middle order were not rattled by this surge of wickets as they dominated the spinners Aldridge and Adams in the middle overs. They were well up with the run rate and poised for victory until skipper Andrews took the unusual and flamboyant step of throwing the ball to the unreliable Will Turner. However, this was the game changer as despite the occasional loose delivery which quite rightly was dispatched to the boundary Turner bowled magnificantly and ripped out three batsmen in 4 balls. Jubilant scenes were the order of the day as the sheer unexpected nature of Turner taking wickets was amazing to behold. He finished with 3-24 and effectively ended Purley's chances of victory as Andover won by 28 runs. Next week sees Andover travel to Alton in the T20 Cup quarter final.
