Andover Cricket Club 1st XI (Sun) v Hook and Newnham Basics 20/20 Semi Final on Sun 25 Jul 2010 at 3:00pm
Andover Cricket Club Lost by 11 runs

Match report A disappointing batting performance saw Andover T20 crash out of the Southern Electric Cup at the semi-final stage. London Road saw a huge crowd turn out for the event but the elusive win that would have seen a final under the floodlights at the Rose Bowl was not meant to be.

After winning the toss and bowling, Andover made crucial early breakthroughs as M Adams removed the prolific J Hobday for 17. Wickets for C Hadfield and R Taylor boosted Andover tremendously and the Hook innings was struggling at the mid way point at 62-3. When Luke Andrews ran out Hook's captain B Thane for 27 Andover were well on top as the innings petered out to 127-9; the pick of the bowlers being the steady J O'Gorman who took 3-16 off his four allotted overs.

At a run a ball the Andover response should have been a formality but the nerves and pressure of the occasion got to a few of the top order batsmen which saw a handful of wickets given cheaply. At the mid way point with J O'Gorman (45) and skipper J Hadfield (20) at the crease Andover were set for victory. However, a collapse of wickets and the tight bowling of A Divecha (1-11) meant that the run rate faltered and Andover finished on 116-9, 11 runs short of a Rose Bowl final.

Complete despair was clear to see etched on the faces of the Andover team who had fought so hard and come so close. It could be argued that the game had been 'thrown' away in more ways than one. However, the league season is ongoing and, with Andover sitting comfortably at the top of the league, the focus will be totally switched to finishing with silverware this season.

Congratulations must go to the Hook side who will undoubtedly enjoy the final on August 19.
