Andover Cricket Club 1st XI (Sun) v Reading on Sun 08 Aug 2010 at 1:30pm
Andover Cricket Club Won by 10 wickets

Match report Andover Sunday 1sts beat Reading HSC convincingly by 10 wickets at London Road. This fixture has produced some very evenly fought contests over the years with one game going down to the final ball where Andover's Mike Adams was dispatched over the sightscreen for a six to lose the game. Unfortunately this time the anticipated drama did not materialise.

After electing to bat on what the Reading skipper described as a 'spinners wicket' Andover's seamers Dan Turner (3-18) and James Knight (2-19) made early inroads into the dangerous Reading top order. It would have been better for Andover if the eagle eyed umpire Brad Bradderson had not disallowed the half volley catch claimed by the over-exuberent James O'Gorman. The spirit of the game being rightfully upheld to the highest degree. Change bowler's James Frecknall (2-12) and Phil Knight (1-9) continued to apply the pressure. With some excellent fielding, most notably the textbook long barrier from Matt Goodman and the sublime catching ability of Will Turner, Andover were in complete control of the game. It was left to Matt Goodman (2-13) to polish off the tail, leaving Reading all out for a paltry 78.

Andover were never going to struggle reaching this score which was proved by openers Harry Blackburn and Will Turner. Blackburn struggled initially, frequently being beaten for pace by the fiery attack. However, he found his feet and flicked his way to 23 not out. His partner Turner dominated proceedings from ball one echoing the form he showed in the years gone by. His placement was exceptional as he split the fielders with elegence and flair. Undoubtedly Turner would have been set for a huge score but with such a small total on the board he could only end up with a well crafted 36*.

Another great win for Andover as they attempt to close in on their second successive Border Leage triumph under taslismanic leader Jonty Hadfield.
