Hungerford v Andover Cricket Club 2nd XI (Sun) on Sun 15 Aug 2010 at 1:30pm
Andover Cricket Club Won by 11 runs

Match report The Gods were definately smiling on the Sunday 2nd XI this week. A tough prospect of going to a very strong Hungerford ground was a daunting prospect especially with an extremely depleted side due to unavailablity. The odds were definately against the Town side.

Hubgerford won the toss and inserted ACC but the opening pair of Foster (58) and Ford (41) layed a fantastic platform from which to set a good target. Both players hit the ball cleanly and with purpose and really set a high benchmark. At the fall of the first wicket Captain Jody Everett went in and decided to get on with it and scored another brisk yet fluent half century (58). Andover were making their talent with the bat show which put the Hungerford line up on the back foot as Town were going to fight for the victory rather than roll over.
Ben Knight had it his way and grilled some fantastic off side shots getting to 16.

ACC amassed a fantastic 255 for five in their alloted overs which surpassed all expectations with a depleted team. It was game on as they say!!

To their credit Hungerford did allow us one additional fielder so thanks must go to them. Andover by this time had their tails up and could sniff a win. Alex Aldridge bowled fantastically well to gain 4 more wickets. Even one with Everett standing in as wicket keeper and taking a stumping to everyones shock and glee. A real team effort was becoming a reality. A will to win in difficult circumstances. Foster also bowled extremely well and was very unlucky to finish wicketless. Leavesley was quite expensive but took 2 vital wickets also!

The turning point was when Hungerfords over seas player batted. ACC were on top but he put them within touching distance but under Border league 2 rules had to retire at 50. Skipper Everett Capped a good day all round taking 2 wickets in his first spell of spin. When it came down to the business end of the game Hungerford needed 12 from the final 12 balls Everett brought himself back on. The atmosphere was highly charged and it really meant something to both sides to win this game. Everett, now bowling medium pace bowled a perfect off cutter that clipped the top of off stump sending the ACC players into delerium as they had pulled off one of the wins of the season and showed fantastic mental strength in doing so! Well done all round lads!

This week we are away at the picturesque Falkland ground in Newbury so fingers crossed we have a strong side.
