Andover Cricket Club 1st XI (Sun) v Hook on Sun 23 May 2010 at 2:00pm
Andover Cricket Club Won by 142 runs

Match report Andover Sunday 1sts know only one way to play the game. Win the toss. Bat. Dominate.

Once again J Hadfield batted on a sweltering day at London Road where the pitch was looking as dry as a bone. Kiwi James O'Gorman commented that 'it was the ideal wicket for agressive strokeplay' and this proved to be the case as Andover started their innings at a rate of knots. The outfield was as fast as lightning providing full value for the shots of R Hadfield and J Andrews (23). R Hadfield in particlar looked as solid as a rock and played with a great confidence and flair until he departed for a well earned 72. However, when he departed it was left for skipper J Hadfield (54) and J O'Gorman to resurrect the innings and post a competitive total. O'Gorman struggled initially but after a few ill-judged shots he found his vision and thumped an ominous 32. After his dismissal Andover rumbled on with J Hadfield reaching a third successive score of 50 or more and help from the tail meant Andover closed on a reasonable and challenging 237-9.

After weeks of fielding that can only be described as average what was to occur when Andover took to the field was nothing short of a miracle. Special mention must go to J Everett whose acrobatic catch was mesmerising and, in particular, J Andrews, whose elegance and grace on the field resulted in three superb catches.
However, the bowlers also deserve their credit as they toiled away in the sun reaping the benefits. P Roberts' hostitlity resulted in removing both the openening batsmen in quick succession which put a spring in Andover's step. then it was for the spinners to wreak havoc on the Hook batsman with A Aldridge (3-16) bowling with great consistency and thought. M Adams bowled with flair and, at times, showed the full range of skills at his disposal but his line and length often stuggled due to the aggressive nature of the batsman, Malibu. As a result, Hook were rarely in the game and J Everett ripped out the final batsman to claim a thumping victory by 140 runs.
