Andover Cricket Club 2nd XI (Sat) v Compton and Chandlers Ford on Sat 02 Jul 2011 at 1:00pm
Andover Cricket Club Won 21 runs

Match report Andover 2nd XI returned to winning ways last Saturday with a tight win over fellow promotion chasers, Chandlers Ford and Compton.

A surprisingly large crowd at London Road were happy to see stand in captain James Knight win the toss and make the decision to bat first. A nervous start for Andover saw openers Steve Ott and James Halle-Smith fall in quick succession to the skilled swing bowling of Alex Sumo. Chris 'banter' Hadfield and Andy Sale saw off the opening bowlers and then began to take advantage of some loose bowling to set a good platform for the innings. Andy Sale was unlucky to fall for a classy 39, which brought Jack Andrews together with Hadfield. The pair began to increase the run rate and assert some authority over the away sides bowling. When Andrews was run out in the 45th over, after falling over, Hadfield was left to bat out the innings with the tail and was the last man out in the last over scoring a majestic 80, including 5 sixes and 6 fours. The town side scored a solid 215, to give themselves something to bowl at.

After the break Chandlers Ford came out all guns blazing, looking to dominate the ACC bowlers. But after James Knight removed the dangerous Dan Kearns for 11, wickets began to fall at regular intervals, thanks mainly to Andover bowling and fielding tight and thus, creating lots of pressure. The main resistance from Chandlers Ford and Compton came from Jack Brennan, who scored 25 and was let down by some loose strokeplay by his teammates. Dan Turner was the undoubted pick of the bowlers finishing with 3 for 39, after carving up the opposition middle order. Compton eventually finished 20 runs adrift of the town side, who will be no doubt delighted to have returned to winning ways.

Tomorrow the town side welcome back captain Dave Webb from materninty leave, as they look to keep up this rich run of form against Bedhampton.
