Andover Cricket Club 2nd XI (Sat) v St Cross Symondians II on Sat 30 Apr 2011 at 1:00pm
Andover Cricket Club Won By 19 runs

Match report On a sunny day at London Road, Andover won a keenly contested friendly against a strong St Cross side.

Andover batted and got off to a reasonable start on a questionable pitch with Jack Andrews (24) tucking in with relish to some loose bowling from J Aldridge. However the town side lost opener Matt Knight and Kiwi James O'Gorman in quick succesion to tricky deliveries on the indifferent surface. Andrews also suffered a similar fate and with Andy Sale following shortly after the town side were in the mire at 50 for 4. However Harry Blackburn and Shaun Attwood applied themselves with great maturity that bellied younger years to both make 33. Andy Mcmahon chipped in with 9 and Andover posted a very credible 144.

O'Gorman, playing after gangly seamer James Knight recieved a late call up to the 1st team, and the veteran John Walsh opened Andover innings with tight spells from both ends resulting in a wicket for Walsh. However runs started to flow freely for St Cross at 60 for 1 looked likely to win. Skipper Dave Webb provided a much needed breakthrough removing the dangerous Tognarelli for 32 to a wonderful catch in the deep from O'Gorman. From then on Andover turned the screws on St Cross. Tight bowling from Webb, who went on to take 4 wickets, and an exhibition from James Duckworth in the art of swing bowling, left Dan Turner to secure Andover a tight 19 run win. Duckworth was the pick of the bowlers finishing with 4 for 13.

A very encouraging result for the town side, achieving such a well fought victory and they will look to take this momentum into the first league match on saturday at London Road.
