Andover Cricket Club 1st XI (Sun) v Swindon on Sun 24 Jul 2011 at 2:00pm
Andover Cricket Club Won by 1 wicket

Match report For the second time this season ACC and Swindon produced a belter of a game that would have had the crowd on their feet,if anyone was actually there watching.

Swindon have played well in both fixtures and credit must go to them for their efforts, but they were second best again today as ACC powered to another victory that keeps them atop the Border League. Ater once again losing the toss Richard Woodley (1-28) persuaded his troops to take to the field and thanked them with a shocking 2 over spell with the new rock. Ryan Ward's (1-43) spell was far more impressive and he helped pin down Swindon's openers. Oversees star James O'Gorman (0-21) bowled a tight spell and despite being wicketless he helped build pressure and slow the scoring. Ben Knight (4-60) bowled some absolute t*rd (due to political correctness the word turd has been replaced by rubbish) but finished with impressive figures and Jay Mann (2-22) continued his excellent form. Phil Knight trundled in nicely to help restrict Swindon to 226-9. Special mention must go to Sean 'ball through legs' Anderson and Simon 'I can't judge the flight of a ball' Mann for their excellent efforts and help at the last minute.

After feasting on tea and Ben Knight's attempts to pull, ACC set about their target in comical fashion. Alex Thompson smashed his way to a quick fire 8 but both he and wicketkeeper Robbie Hadfield (11) fell cheaply and ACC soon found themselves 60-6 and in deep trouble. O'Gorman was batting well but he needed a partner to stick around. Up stepped the usually unreliable Jay Mann (26) who batted superbly to offer the burgeoning kiwi support. Once Mann departed the hosts still needed over a 100 and a couple of quick wickets meant that Phil Knight had to stay in and help Norm get the 75 runs needed for victory. And he only bl**dy (due to political correctness the word bloody has been replaced by golly gosh)did it. It was horrible to watch, negative and soul destroying but it was the perfect foil for Norm's huge, hard hitting, quick scoring down the other end. Big Eff never looked like getting out, even with some of the keenest fielding you are ever likely to see. Slowly O'Gorman chipped away at the total and ACC looked like coasting to victory in the last over. However, Swindon had other thoughts and would have sealed victory had the anti banter badger not dropped an absolute dolly of a catch. He had (unnecessarily) dived around all day and stopped many runs for his skipper but when it really mattered the poor poor fella bottled it. Much to the delight of the home dugout. ACC snatched victory once again and O'Gorman's stunning 164 not out was the cornerstone.

Brilliant stuff. Purely away next for a top of the table clash.
