Match report Andover III travelled to the picturesque Sparsholt ground to take on their second team in their latest Hampshire League game. Phil Knight won the toss and chose to bat first and openers Shaun Attwood and James Halle-Smith set about establishing a very solid base. Runs were hard to come by on a slightly damp pitch unless the bowlers pitched short when Attwood in particular was brutal. The new ball was lost in the woods in the 3rd over after a particularly big six. The openers weren't parted until 147 was on the baord when Halle-Smith went for a well constructed 45. Andy Sale 6 and Martin Roberts 10 joined Attwood in the chase for quick runs and fell doing so. Attwood was by now very dominant, he had passed fifty in the 21st over and reached his hundred just 6 overs later. He eventually fell for a brilliant 124 including 12 6's. He actually only ran 16 singles in his innings. Max Souter and Jos Clarke continued the big hitting and Andover reached what looked a comfortable 240 for 5.

Sparsholts opening batsman had other ideas and set about the Andover bowling but the bowlers held their nerve and Carslake was dismissed on 49 by Martin Roberts. There followed a spell where Andover controlled the run rate and Sparsholt fell behind the asking rate. Wickets were hard to come by Phil Knight picked up 1 for 36, Roberts 1 for 37 off their 10 overs. Pete Van der Westhuizen also grabbed 2 wickets for 48. Sparsholt opener Andy Pryce remained resolute but despite some lusty blows they were still were behind the rate. Needing 19 off the last over it was just too much although Pryce reached his 100 off the last ball and Andover III won by 11 runs.
