Mottisfont v Andover Cricket Club 4th XI (Sat) on Sat 09 Jul 2011 at 2:00pm
Andover Cricket Club Lost by 6 wickets.

Match report Andover's 4th XI lost a rain-affected match at Mottisfont on Saturday by 7 wickets.

Andover's skipper Matt Goodman lost the toss for the first time in four weeks, and the visiting side were in trouble straightaway. The first short burst of rain in the day livened the pitch up, and Mottisfont took advantage with the early wicket of Jody Everett (11) to shock the opening partnership. But Everett's opening partner Alex Webber built a third wicket partnership of 73 runs with Matt Brown (31) and saw Andover through another short interruption for rain and then through drinks. When Brown was eventually dismissed in the 24th over, Webber was joined by John Foster for another strong partnership of 33 runs before Foster fell to a cracking delivery from Ian Bradwell (10.0-0-29-3). Webber followed swiftly after with the score on 130, having played a very mature and beautifully judged 55. The rest of Andover's tail fell quickly, with the difficult pitch and tight bowling attack accounting for the next five batsmen for only 16 runs. Skipper Goodman provided a brief flourish at the end, clubbing another 16 runs off three overs, but was run out in a mix-up in the middle. Andover's 163 looked a defendable, if low, total on the pitch they had just batted on.

But as fate would have it, that wasn't the pitch that Mottisfont played on. The sun emerged for the Mottisfont innings, and the pitch began to improve. John Foster took the wickets of Mottisfont's two openers in an aggressive spell that got the most out of the rapidly drying pitch. In at number 3, Tim Trant then opened up on Andover's attack. Trant's combination of aggressive stroke-play and measured defence was too good for Andover, as he quickly made his 50 and was only dismissed on 86 when Foster returned to the attack. Foster was the pick of the bowlers taking three wickets off his ten overs for only 30 runs. Able support for Trant from Dan Petley (26) mean Mottisfont were most of the way home and dry, eclipsing Andover's rain-adjusted 161 in the 35th over.
