Ampfield v Andover Cricket Club 2nd XI (Sun) on Sun 24 Jul 2011 at 2:00pm
Andover Cricket Club Won 6 wickets
Match report
There were 3 personal milestones reached as Andover Sunday 2nds chased down 187 to record a 6 wicket victory against Ampfield Crusaders. Firstly 15 year old Max Romer-Lee recorded his maiden '5 -for' in adult cricket as he demolished Ampfield's middle order with 5 for 32. He was aided and abetted by Hamish Morton 2 for 51, David Richards 1 for 22 and Rowan Duckworth 1 for 25. In reply, the 2nds enjoyed a good start with Andrew Duckworth (29) and James Richards sharing an opening stand of 45. 3 wickets then fell quickly before 17 year old Matt Brown joined skipper Alan Ellwood (29). They shared a stand of 105 before being split. When Ellwood reached 20, he notched his 20,000th run for Andover, in a career which started in 1970, with a trademark square cut through backward point. Brown carried on belligerently to record his career best score of 82 not out seeing the 2nds home with 4 overs to spare. His knock included 10 '4's and 2 sixes into the adjoining golf course, helping himself to a 6,2,6,1 finish off the Bronze League bowler Neal.
