Andover Cricket Club 1st XI (Sat) v Bashley (Rydal) on Sat 24 Jun 2017 at 11.30am
Andover Cricket Club Lost by 8 wickets

Match report Nordlock sponsored Andover welcomed New Forest side Bashley to an overcast London Road in the latest round of the Southern Premier League. Andover welcomed back middle order batsmen Will Arnold while Glyn Treagus took the reins from the absent Matt Hooper. Bashley's line up including a rare appearance from Middlesex fast bowler Tom Barber.

Stand in skipper Glyn Treagus lost the toss and Andover were asked to bat first on a green looking pitch which looked like it would provide plenty assistance to the seam bowlers. Sadly for Andover this early prediction proved accurate as Andover openers Glyn Treagus and Storm Green were dismissed by some fiery deliveries from Barber. It got worse for Andover as Dave Watson was adjudged caught behind leaving the town side in a hole at 10 for 3.

Will Arnold and overseas star Chamika Karunaratne set about rebuilding the Andover innings. The pair displayed some good technique and attacking shots as they looked to take the fight back to Bashley. After 10 overs Andover had managed to recover to 45 for 3. Arnold then hit the shot of the day with a powerful hook which deposited the ball into London Road. However disaster then struck as Arnold was caught in the slips for 23 and then Karunaratne (22) fell in identical fashion leaving Andover staring down the barrel of another low total. Homegrown stars Harry Blackburn and Matt Knight came together to try and get Andover up to a competitive total. The pair batted patiently and managed to add another 30 to the total before Blackburn (9) had his off stump uprooted. This started a procession of batsmen as Andover moved from 80 for 6 to 90 for 9 at the lunch break with only Matt Knight showing resistance remaining unbeaten on 25.

Following the lunch break, Knight hit some lusty blows to take Andover past the 100 mark before being castled by Barber for 37 as Andover posted a disappointing 106.

Skipper Glyn Treagus knew the town side needed wickets if they were to have any chance of posting a positive result. Overseas star Chamika Karunaratne duly delivered having both Bashley openers caught behind the wicket to give Andover a chance of an upset. Karunaratne continued to bowl with great pace and control and continued to create chances against the opposition. However Bashley's Australian star Patrick Page and captain Michael Porter managed to survive Karunaratne's spell and then attacked the spinners to consign Andover to another defeat.

Andover travel to New Milton in a must win game in the Southern Premier League.
