Redlynch & Hale III v Andover Cricket Club 4th XI (Sat) on Sat 08 Jul 2017 at 2pm
Andover Cricket Club Won

Match report As the clocks ticked lazily towards midnight, Andover 4s finally left Redlynch happy to have won a good game against opposition that usually frustrates them.
Surprising no one, the Andover skipper won the toss and elected to field first on a day clearly suited to batting. The Andover attack worked hard against a Redlynch side determined to give nothing away. Blazing sunshine, a rock hard pitch, lost balls, a slow run rate, drinks breaks and a fine hundred from Kimberly (101) all led to tea being taken at 5.20pm. Redlynch finally managed 246 for 5, a decent score but not huge given the bonhomous conditions. Sheeraz and Josh Elliott were again the pick of the bowlers piling up another 5 wickets between them.
Tea was good, Richard Woodley was particularly impressed with a lavish Victoria Sponge, though a few question marks were raised (somewhat unfairly) about the place of a homemade fruitcake in a cricket tea. Ah, the young!
The Andover reply started badly, Crouch misjudged one that didn't need to be misjudged. That brought Du Heaume to the crease and he and Josh Elliott began to build a solid platform for the town side. Du Heaume (53) clubbed his way to a half century before departing which allowed Woodley the chance to pick up his bat for the first time this season. Elliott and Woodley continued to score freely and to the delight of the whole team, Josh Elliott (54) was rewarded with the half century that his much improved batting has been promising all year.
The game was getting tense and it was by now quite clear that no one was getting home early. With wickets in hand, the Andover side had a license to hit out; Sheeraz (29) and Ben Black (16) regularly found the boundary which left Andover needing 23 runs from the final 3 overs. This is exactly the kind of work that suits Brendan Clarke and particularly Jay Mann. With both players finding the boundary, Clarke's four down to mid-on won the game for Andover with just one ball to spare. It was by now quite late, many of the nocturnal animals that had been so rudely woken earlier by an invasive ball, were rewarded by witnessing the end of what was Andover 4th team's best performance of the season so far.
