Andover Cricket Club 1st XI (Sun) v New Milton on Sun 11 Jun 2017 at 3:00pm
Andover Cricket Club Won by 63 runs

Match report Andover welcomed New Milton to London Road in the first round of the Southern Premier T20 competition on Sunday. Skipper Matt Hooper won the toss and elected to bat in front of a crowd of over 100 at London Road.

Glyn Treagus got the Andover innings off to a brisk start lofting the first ball of the innings for 4. However a mix up between opening batsmen Martin Roberts and Treagus saw Treagus ran out for 6. Matt Knight joined Roberts and the pair displayed some attacking shots including a massive 6 from Knight to take the score up to 40 from 5 overs. However disaster struck as Knight (15) was also run out and then Roberts (19) was caught at mid on two balls later, leaving Andover at 45 for 3 off 6 overs. Harry Blackburn and Chamika Karunaratne looked to rebuild the Andover innings. The pair displayed some excellent stroke play to take Andover up to 80 off 11 overs before Karunaratne (15) was well caught at mid off. Blackburn (29) followed soon after and Andover at 92 for 5 looked in danger of not setting a competitive total.

However, Josh Balentine-Dykes (31*) and Max Souter (11) displayed some powerful strokes including a massive six from Souter to take Andover up to 139 for 7 of their 20 overs.

Andover knew they would have to bowl and field well to defend their total and Aidan Jansen struck early on removing the dangerous Edwards and Wakefield in consecutive balls. Fellow opening bowler Mike Adams also bowled tightly to limit New Milton to 30 for 2 off their first 6 overs. Skipper Matt Hooper introduced himself into the attack with instant results. He ripped out the New Milton middle order with a fine display of spin bowling, displaying excellent control and variation of pace. Along with a sharp run out from Souter, Andover had New Milton reeling at 50 for 7. Overseas star Karunaratne and Foy mopped up the New Milton tail to complete a large Andover win.

A great win for Andover and they look to take this momentum into the next round of the competition.
