Andover Cricket Club 2nd XI (Sat) v Bournemouth II on Sat 03 Jun 2017 at 2pm
Andover Cricket Club Won By 14 runs

Match report Test Valley Windows sponsored Andover's second XI took on Bournemouth last Saturday in looking to build on a comprehensive win away to Sway the week before.

After winning the toss skipper James Knight elected to bat first on a hot summers day. Andover made steady progress to start with, laying strong platform form which they could explode later on. Opener Kelum Watta (50) and Richard Taylor (75) formed a strong partnership, dispatching any poor delivery for boundaries on a regular basis. Taylor was particularly impressive, scoring at a rapid pace on his return to Andover after a 5 years sabbatical at St. Cross taken to fulfill his dream of playing premier league cricket. Andover's innings lost some momentum towards the end as Bournemouth came back strong and took regular wickets, but handy contributions from Robbie Taylor (13) and Ed Duckworth (16) saw Andover post 208-9.

In response Andover picked up a wicket through Ed Duckworth in the first over, but then struggled to find a consistent line and length initially. Bournemouth raced to 42-1 of the first 6 overs, helped significantly by a few too many extras. Thereafter Andover brought it back with Richard Taylor (3-42) and Aidan Jansen keeping it tight. With Andover on top and Bournemouth 80-3, an untimely rain interruption forced the players off. Intermittent showers persisted but the play was decisively resumed around 40 minutes later with Bournemouth requiring a revised 167 of 36 overs. This forced the Bournemouth side to begin to look for big shots every ball. Andover contained their scoring well through some excellent fielding, and timely wickets from Cox (3-13) and Knight (2-48). Cox in particular produced a wonderful spell of death bowling to push the game out of Bournemouth's reach as they finished on 153-9.

Another convincing win for Andover, who make the long trip to Parley in Dorset next Saturday.
