Hursley Park I v Andover Cricket Club 2nd XI (Sat) on Sat 28 Jul 2018 at 13:00
Andover Cricket Club Won By 1 wicket

Match report Andover II resumed their bid to avoid relegation against Hursley Park I, buoyed by back-to-back wins.

Skipper James Knight won the toss and elected to bowl on a green track with blustery conditions overhead. Rowan Duckworth made the first breakthrough by removing former Andover 1st team Lee Wattridge with a snorter in the 3rd over. At the other end Robbie Taylor continued his impressive form with superb, miserly spell of in swing bowling that Hursley could not get near. He bowled his first 10 straight through, finishing with superb figures of 10-4-11-0. The with Hursley Park behind the game Andover started to profit, with Max Romer-Lee ripping the heart out of the Hursley top order with 4-32. With skipper James Knight returning 3-32 and Ollie Palmer impressing with 1-45, Hursley Park were constantly under the cosh and limped their way to 169 all out.

Andover set about their chase with confidence, but their progress was hit by frequent set backs. The first three wickets fell cheaply and Hursley Park bolwed very tightly, leaving ACC 23-3 off the first 16 overs. Form here Andover set about recovering with Sam Pope anchoring the innings superbly. His 39 was supported well by Harri Williams and Patrick Case, before Case was caught at cover leavig Andover 90-6 and in some bother. Ali Hooper then strode purposefully to the crease, allbeit hampered by chronic pain in his right bicep and wrist. Despite his injury he counter attacked with supreme class, punishing width andshort deliveries and swing the match toward Andover. He was ably supported by Robiie Taylor who ran hard between the wickets to keep the scoreboard ticking over. The pair took Andover close to thier target, before Taylor (0) and then Hooper (60) fell in quick succession. This left the last pairing of Rowan Duckworth and James Knight at the crease, requiring 10 off 14 balls. The pair found the resolve in the face of extreme pressure to stroke the ball to all parts, displaying an impressive array of shotmaking. The pair led the town side home without incident, with 2 balls to spare.

A tense win for Andover who have now won 3 games consecutively. They face a crucial game against top side Hythe and Dibden next week lloking to move out of the relegation zone for the first time since May.
